Financial Assistance Programs for Medicare Patients
If out-of-pocket cancer care costs are high, several public and non-profit assistance programs can lower premiums, copays, and drug deductibles.
Primary Assistance Programs
1. Extra Help / Low-Income Subsidy (LIS)
Federal program that pays Part D prescription drug deductibles, monthly premiums, and caps drug copays to low fixed amounts.
2. Medicare Savings Programs (MSP)
State Medicaid assistance programs (QMB, SLMB, QI) that pay Part B monthly premiums and, in QMB cases, eliminate Medicare deductibles and coinsurance.
3. Non-Profit Copay Foundations
Organizations like the Patient Access Network (PAN) Foundation, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), and HealthWell Foundation offer direct copay grants.
