Cancer Explained

What helps while waiting for cancer test results?

Keeping busy is one of the most helpful things you can do while waiting for cancer test results, which can be a very stressful time.

Try scheduling time with friends or family members, or getting in touch with people you have not talked to in a while. You can also treat yourself to some self-care, such as exercise, meditation, a massage, a manicure, or anything else that takes your mind off the wait.

It also helps to know what services are available to you. Many of the same resources and people who supported you during treatment are still there for you now. Relaxation exercises, gentle movement, and writing your feelings down in a journal can ease worry too.

If the anxiety around scans and results feels like more than you can handle, let your care team know. They can talk through your concerns and, if it would help, refer you to a counselor or a support group.
