Cancer Explained

How can I find meaning while living with cancer?

Many people find meaning while living with cancer by noticing life's small joys, staying connected to others, and drawing on their beliefs.

Some people see cancer as a wake-up call and realize the importance of enjoying the little things. It can help to pay attention to the things that make you smile each day, whether that is a good cup of coffee, time with a child, or a talk with a friend. Doing things that feel special to you, like being in nature, praying in a meaningful place, or cooking a good meal, can add to that sense of joy.

People who adjust well to cancer often continue to find meaning and importance in their lives. In fact, many survivors say that surviving cancer gave them a greater appreciation for life, a clearer sense of what matters most, and stronger spiritual or religious beliefs.

You do not have to do this alone. Sharing your feelings, joining a support group, and connecting with a faith or spiritual community can all be sources of strength and meaning.
