Why can I see my test results before my doctor explains them?
Results from lab tests, imaging, and biopsies are often posted in your patient portal before your doctor can discuss them with you. It is completely normal to feel anxious and to want to know right away what the results are and what they mean.
A single result usually does not tell the whole story. Doctors put together several tests—lab work, imaging, and often a biopsy—to reach a diagnosis, and many results are reported as a range rather than a simple yes or no.
Because of this, your doctor is the best person to explain what all of your results mean together and for your situation. If seeing results early causes worry, you can ask your care team when they expect to review them with you.
