Cancer Explained

What are signs that caregiving is affecting my health?

Caregiving is not stress-free, and new demands often add to any health problems you already have. Common changes caregivers notice include fatigue, a weaker immune system, sleep problems, slower healing, higher blood pressure, appetite or weight changes, headaches, and mood changes.

It is also important to watch for signs of depression or anxiety. If changes last more than two weeks, talk to your doctor.

Taking care of your own health gives you the strength to care for someone else. Keep up your own checkups and screenings, take your medicines as prescribed, try to eat well and rest, and get help when you need it.
