Cancer Explained

Is it normal to feel angry about having cancer?

Yes. It is very normal to ask "Why me?" and to feel angry—at the cancer, and sometimes at providers, healthy friends, or loved ones. Anger often comes from feelings that are hard to show, such as fear or helplessness.

You don't have to pretend everything is okay. Keeping anger inside isn't healthy. It often helps to talk with your family and friends, or to ask your doctor to refer you to a counselor.

Feelings can change daily, hourly, or even minute to minute during cancer, and all of them are normal. Finding an outlet—by talking or writing them down—can help.
