Can I have radiation therapy to the same area twice?
There is a limit to the amount of radiation an area of your body can safely receive over the course of your lifetime.
Depending on how much radiation an area has already received, you may not be able to have radiation therapy to that same area a second time. However, if one area has already received its safe lifetime dose, a different area might still be treated—if the distance between the two areas is large enough.
Your radiation team keeps careful track of the doses you receive. They can explain what is safe in your situation.
